The Thomas Jefferson High School Apiary
In the April of 2019, we installed a new apiary on campus at Thomas Jefferson High School. We started with 2 nucleus colonies which quickly grew into 3 hives. Our bees have thrived in their secluded space, foraging from a plentiful amount of wild flowers that can be found all over the grounds. With the help and guidance from our mentor, Chris Vario, of Sonny Rose Ranch, our hives are thriving. The sale of honey will serve as a fundraiser to keep our apiary growing.
We held Beekeeping 101 classes in the fall in preparation for spring, alas COVID-19 put a halt to club plans. We hope to start working with students during the 21-22 school year.
We thank all the staff, students and community for their support of our apiary program. We are just getting started!
